The Nasya Process

Preparation

The patient lies comfortably on their back while the face and sinus area are gently warmed to encourage relaxation and open the channels.

Application of Herbal Oils

A carefully measured amount of herbal oil is administered into each nostril. The quantity and type of oil are always adapted to the individual and the therapeutic purpose.

Gentle Facial Massage

After the oil application, a light massage around the forehead, temples and nose area may be performed to support absorption, circulation and relaxation.

Cleansing and Release

As the oils begin working within the nasal passages, loosened mucus and impurities are gently expelled from the body.

Traditional Uses of Nasya

In Ayurveda, Nasya is traditionally used to support conditions related to the head, neck and respiratory system. It may be beneficial for:

Sinus congestion and breathing difficulties

Chronic headaches and migraines

Mental fog and lack of clarity

Tension in the head and face

Certain ear and eye discomforts

Supportive care for hair and scalp health

Ayurveda also values Nasya for its calming and grounding effect on the nervous system, helping support clarity, focus and emotional balance.

When Should Nasya Be Avoided?

Although Nasya is considered highly beneficial when properly administered, Ayurveda advises avoiding the treatment in certain situations, including:

During acute fever, cold or active sinus infection

Immediately after bathing or showering

Late at night

During pregnancy

In cases of high blood pressure

After recent injury or trauma to the head

A Therapy That Requires Professional Guidance

As Ayurveda becomes increasingly popular worldwide, Nasya treatments are now more widely available. However, this remains a specialized Ayurvedic therapy that should always be performed under the supervision of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner.

The choice of oils, dosage and treatment approach must be individually adapted to ensure both safety and effectiveness.

When practiced correctly, Nasya offers a gentle yet powerful way to support respiratory health, mental clarity and overall balance within the body and mind.
