There are brands with whom cooperation begins with trust, shared values, and a sense that what we do truly matters. That is why today we are sharing the story of Moma Ayurveda — our partner, with whom we are united by a common approach to quality, responsibility, and holistic thinking about health. It is a story of a journey that became the foundation of a conscious collaboration.

Moma Ayurveda was born from a journey — literally and figuratively

In 2013, Marcin and Monika set off for India with a one-way ticket, curiosity about the world, and a desire to do things that make sense. They traveled through India, Nepal, Tibet, and Sri Lanka, learning, observing, and experiencing life in a simpler, more natural form.

By chance, their path led them to Auroville, where they met Hendrik, who introduced them to the world of spirulina a microscopic algae often referred to as the plant of the future. This meeting marked the beginning of a long-term relationship, friendship, and a deep fascination with the immense power hidden in nature.

At the same time, Marcin and Monika were discovering the effectiveness of Ayurvedic herbs and began to study Ayurveda the “science of life.” Over time, they experienced firsthand how a holistic approach to health influences everyday functioning and a sense of balance.

In 2014, at the foothills of the Himalayas in Nepal, the idea emerged to create something of their own. Something authentic. Something rooted in the values that had accompanied them from the very beginning of their journey.

This is how Moma Ayurveda came to life.

For over 10 years, the company has been sharing the best that nature has to offer, supporting thousands of people in Poland and across the European Union in caring for their health and well-being. Their mission is best captured in the words:

“With gratitude and love for the natural world, they help themselves and others achieve and maintain well-being and optimal health.”

They have followed this path consistently to this day.

Moma Ayurveda cooperates with wholesalers, stores, herbal shops, doctors, and Ayurvedic consultants, as well as with individuals who believe in the power of natural solutions and conscious choices. The company also runs retail sales through its online store and on Allegro.

The Moma Ayurveda offer includes not only Ayurvedic herbs and spirulina, but also carefully selected products that naturally align with the philosophy of Ayurveda:

handcrafted copper products from India, certified and made using traditional methods,

ecological Prakriti oils, handmade according to ancient Ayurvedic recipes,

exceptional PREMIUM incense, hand-crafted from flowers collected in temples in Mathura.

Moma Ayurveda is a story of a journey, mindfulness, and a return to what is natural and true.

Our partnership with Moma Ayurveda is, for Ceylon Ayurveda, a natural continuation of the beautiful story behind their brand. We cooperate in the area of Ayurvedic herbs, guided by what is most important to us: verified origin and a transparent supply process.

A particular value of this collaboration is the way the herbs are sourced. Medicinal herbs and flowers used in Moma Ayurveda products come from an ecological environment, without the use of any chemical agents. They are cultivated on fertile soils, with respect for natural growth cycles and the principles of Ayurveda. This translates not only into the purity of the products, but also into their quality, effectiveness, and safety of use.

Thanks to this cooperation, we are able to recommend products to our patients that are thoughtfully created, consistent with the philosophy of Ayurveda, and that genuinely support health. We believe that relationships built on shared values, respect for nature, and long-term thinking about health truly matter today.

Ayurveda – my path, my passion, my calling

An Interview with Dr. Dhananji

Ayurveda has been an inseparable part of my life, not just as a medical system but as a path, a philosophy, and a deep spiritual calling. As an Ayurvedic specialist, I am often asked why this ancient system of healing—rooted in over 5,000 years of tradition—is still so relevant today. And to me, the answer is clear: everything in existence is governed by the eternal laws of Mother Nature.

All living beings on this planet are born, live, and return to the earth through the mechanism of nature. Despite centuries of technological advances, cultural shifts, and environmental changes, the core principles that govern life have remained unchanged. From the air we breathe to the water we drink, from the warmth of the sun to the healing herbs that grow around us—every element is gifted by nature for our sustenance. Ayurveda is built upon these principles. It is a timeless science that reflects the wisdom of living in harmony with nature’s rhythm.

The word “Ayurveda” means “science of life.” It was introduced to humanity by ancient yogis and sages who, through deep meditation and spiritual insight, were able to access and record profound knowledge about the body, mind, and the healing power of plants. This sacred wisdom was preserved on palm leaf manuscripts and passed down through generations of devoted scholars. Its continued practice offered exceptional results, proving its effectiveness. Today, Ayurveda remains recognized and respected worldwide for its depth and holistic approach.

My Personal Path to Ayurveda

My connection to Ayurveda goes back to my roots. My grandfather on my father’s side was an Ayurvedic healer, though I never had the chance to meet him. After his passing, his two younger brothers continued his healing legacy, serving our village with devotion and wisdom passed down to them.

As a child, I was more inclined toward Western medicine. I believed strongly in its scientific approach and pursued studies to become a Western medical doctor. However, my life took a transformative turn when I met my husband, Dr. Kushan Harsha Pathirana. His mother, Dr. Chandramali Senanayake, is a renowned Ayurvedic specialist in Galle, southern Sri Lanka. Living closely with her and witnessing her practice opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of healing.

I saw how her patients thrived—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. The harmony, respect for nature, and profound understanding of the human body and mind that Ayurveda offered felt entirely different from what I had learned in my Western medical training. This experience awakened something in me. I gradually shifted paths, devoting my life fully to the practice and philosophy of Ayurveda. Its strong foundations, logical principles, and practical wisdom spoke to my soul. I knew I had found my true calling.

What Makes Ayurveda Unique

Ayurveda and conventional medicine both aim to heal, but they do so from fundamentally different perspectives. Conventional medicine often focuses on symptom relief, targeting specific issues quickly—sometimes at the cost of side effects or overlooking deeper imbalances. Ayurveda, on the other hand, seeks the root cause of disease. It treats the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—not just isolated symptoms.

One of Ayurveda’s greatest strengths is its personalized approach. Even if two people suffer from the same condition, they might receive completely different treatments based on their unique constitution (Prakriti), lifestyle, digestion, and emotional state. This is something Western medicine rarely offers.

Ayurveda also emphasizes prevention through lifestyle, detoxification, proper diet, seasonal routines, and ethical living. It supports the body’s innate intelligence using natural methods: herbs, oils, yoga, meditation, and therapeutic rituals. While Ayurveda may not bring instant results, its healing is deep and long-lasting. I believe both systems—Ayurveda and Western medicine—have their place. They can beautifully complement one another when used thoughtfully.

Practicing Ayurveda in Poland

In my current practice in Poland, I often work with patients who are struggling with chronic illnesses and mental health challenges. Common issues include anxiety, depression, stress, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, skin conditions, and sleep disturbances.

Many people in today’s society are overwhelmed by emotional and physical stress, poor dietary habits, irregular routines, and insufficient rest. This creates a buildup of toxins—what we call “Ama” in Ayurveda—which is often the root of disease.

In recent years, I’ve also seen more patients dealing with burnout, emotional instability, and relationship issues. They are searching for more than just physical treatment—they long for balance, inner peace, and holistic healing. Ayurveda offers that through personalized detox programs like Panchakarma, mindful living, herbal therapy, and emotional support.

It has been beautiful to see how open people in Poland have become to this ancient science. Many are eager to take active roles in their healing—not just by taking medicine, but by transforming their habits, food choices, and mindset.

Understanding the Three Doshas

Ayurveda teaches that each person is governed by three bio-energies: Vata (air & space), Pitta (fire & water), and Kapha (earth & water). These doshas influence everything from digestion to mood. When in balance, they support health; when out of balance, disease arises.

Though these principles are deep and thoroughly explained in classical texts like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, the essence is simple: know your nature, and learn to keep it in balance. Health begins with self-awareness.

Ayurveda Beyond Diet

While diet is a major pillar of Ayurveda, it’s just one part of a larger system. Other equally important components include:

Panchakarma – Detoxification

Dina & Ritu Charya – Daily and seasonal routines

Ahara Vidhi – Eating according to your body type and digestive fire (Agni)

Nidra – Quality sleep and mental rejuvenation

Achar Rasayana – Positive behavior, patience, compassion

Sad Vritta – Ethical discipline and emotional balance

Rasayana Therapy – Rejuvenation for longevity and vitality

Yoga & Meditation – For physical, mental, and spiritual harmony

My Ayurvedic Consultations

Each consultation is unique. I listen deeply to the patient’s life story. I assess their body type, digestion, pulse, mental state, and daily routines using ancient diagnostic tools. We speak not only about their illness but also about their life, emotions, and habits. From this understanding, I create a fully personalized treatment plan—including diet changes, herbs, daily rituals, and more.

Changes to Begin Your Journey

Over the years, I’ve noticed that many health issues stem from mental and emotional instability. Our modern surroundings can easily become toxic to the mind, leading to agitation, negativity, and eventually physical illness.

If would suggest three starting points for anyone wanting to live more in tune with themselves:

Release excessive desires and attachments

Manage anger and resentment

Overcome delusion through awareness

These are the roots of many mental disturbances. Learning to observe and understand your emotional patterns is the beginning of true healing.

Why I Do What I Do

My journey to becoming an Ayurvedic therapist has not been easy. It came with sacrifices that many may never see. But to me, Ayurveda is more than a profession—it is my path, my passion, and my soul’s mission.

Each patient I meet receives my full heart and energy. I treat them not just as cases, but as complete human beings, with their own stories, hopes, and pain. My greatest joy comes when I see real transformation—when someone tells me, “I feel like I have returned to myself.” That is the true power of Ayurveda.

How to Begin Your Path in Ayurveda

In today’s world, information is everywhere. But not all of it is true or pure. Due to commercialization, Ayurveda has sometimes lost its authenticity. So I always recommend: begin with self-awareness.

Observe your body, your energy, your emotions. Notice how your system reacts to food, stress, and seasons. This is the foundation. From there, seek knowledge from reliable sources, certified practitioners, and teachers who walk the path with integrity.

When you begin to connect the dots, you’ll see the true beauty and depth of Ayurveda—and how it can change your life.

Thank you, my beloved readers, for taking the time to walk with me through this journey. May you find balance, health, and harmony in your own path—guided always by the gentle wisdom of Mother Nature.

With love and gratitude,

Shirodhara – a traditional Ayurvedic ritual for health and well-being

Due to the increasing interest in Shirodhara, we’ve observed numerous misunderstandings and questions from our beloved friends. In today’s article, we would like to shed light on Shirodhara, discovering its benefits, contraindications, and clear out common misconceptions.

Shirodhara is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that originated in India and has been practiced for centuries. The word Shirodhara is derived from the Sanskrit words „Shiro”, meaning head, and „Dhara”, meaning stream/flow. In this therapeutic procedure, a continuous and gentle stream of warm oil is poured over the forehead, specifically targeting the „third eye” region. The most commonly used oils for Shirodhara are coconut or sesame oil mixed with specific herbs chosen by the therapist according to each individual.

Liquid stream of health – how does Shirodhara therapy work?

The individual undergoing Shirodhara must first have a consultation with a therapist to determine if the treatment is suitable for them. If yes, the therapist will provide a list of indications to follow throughout the process. The duration of the treatment is also determined by the therapist. According to ancient texts, the duration varies from patient to patient, ranging from a minimum of 3 days up to 5 days. Throughout each day, the session durations gradually increase, starting from 15/20 minutes and reaching a maximum of 30/35 minutes.

Commonly, Shirodhara is not prescribed as an individual treatment but is often combined with other Ayurvedic treatments such as Nasya (Nasal oleation), Kavala (herbal mouthwash), Duma Pana (Herbal smoke inhalation), or as part of the Panchakarma detoxification program.

For the actual treatment the patient lies on a comfortable massage table with his eyes closed and ears covered while the therapist adjusts the temperature and flow of the oil. The warm oil flows in a rhythmic and steady manner, inducing a deep state of relaxation. The therapy is designed to calm the nervous system, balance the mind, and promote a sense of tranquility.

Relaxation and relief – how does Shirodhara work?

Shirodhara is renowned for its potential to alleviate stress, anxiety, mental fatigue and sleeping problems. It is believed to harmonize the flow of vital energy (prana) in the body, promoting overall well-being. Additionally, this Ayurvedic treatment is thought to have benefits for the hair and scalp, thanks to the nourishing properties of the oils used in the process.

After the treatment, it is advisable for the patient to avoid exposure to cold temperatures and wind, as this may lead to headaches, colds, or sinus issues. Therefore, it is always recommended to protect the head with a scarf or a winter beanie. Consuming warm foods and drinking warm water or tea also aids in maintaining internal warmth within the body.

The secrets of Shirodhara – it’s not just relaxation therapy

Unfortunately, more and more frequently, we observe the introduction of this treatment in massage centers and spas. It is crucial to remember that Shirodhara is not merely a relaxation treatment and, if performed improperly, may have negative effects on the body. Therefore, it is highly important to undergo the treatment under the supervision of a professional Ayurvedic therapist. Like any other treatment, Shirodhara has specific contraindications that need emphasis. For instance, Shirodhara should be particularly avoided during pregnancy, migraines, headaches, high blood pressure, after any kind of surgery, following a recent stroke, or in the presence of fever, flu, or sinus problems.

Therefore to experience a proper Shirodhara, we highly recommend undergoing this procedure only in specialized centers and under the supervision of professional Ayurvedic specialist.

We hope that this article has addressed all your curiosity and questions regarding Shirodhara. If you are interested in the Shirodhara treatment, we at Ceylon Ayurveda offer this service. However, as we are committed to providing authentic and high-quality treatments, Shirodhara is exclusively available as part of our Panchakarma program.

Welcoming Spring with Ayurveda – harmony with nature and Your body

As the chill of winter fades away, nature begins its colorful rebirth with the arrival of spring. In Ayurveda, spring is considered the season of rejuvenation and renewal, making it the optimal time for cleansing and balancing the body and mind. Let’s explore the insights that Ayurveda offers about the spring season. According to Ayurveda, spring is characterized by the qualities of „Kapha dosha” – cool, damp, heavy, and stable. These qualities can affect our internal balance, leading to higher Kapha and symptoms such as nasal congestion, lethargy, allergies, and mood swings. These symptoms are also a manifestation of the doshas accumulated during the winter season, which now burst forth, similar to nature’s blossoming leaves and buds. For these reasons, Ayurveda emphasizes practices that pacify Kapha dosha while promoting detoxification.

Enjoy a spring detox with Ayurveda

Indeed, spring is also considered the best period to undergo Panchakarma detoxification programs. As nature undergoes a rejuvenation process, shedding the accumulated heaviness of winter and preparing for new growth, our bodies naturally align with this renewal, making it an ideal time for detoxification and rejuvenation therapies. Additionally, the warming weather of spring enhances the body’s metabolic processes, facilitating the elimination of accumulated toxins Ama more effectively.

8 AYURVEDIC TIPS TO HELP YOU STAY BALANCED THIS SPRING

Now, let’s glimpse at the tips suggested by Ayurveda to help maintain balance during this season:

Undergo Detoxification with Panchakarma.

Practice intermittent fasting and embrace a lighter diet with seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables.

Incorporate spices such as ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, and black pepper into your meals to help boost the immune system, fight nasal congestion, and allergies.

Stay active by engaging in regular physical activities to counteract Kapha’s heavy qualities and promote circulation.

Rise early: Wake with the sunrise to align yourself with the natural rhythms of the day.

Stay hydrated with warm herbal teas and room-temperature water. Minimize cold or iced beverages, as they can increase Kapha.

Receive full-body massages such as Abhyanga with warm oils at least two or three times per week.

We hope you have enjoyed this articles of our series The four seasons with Ayurveda and we wish you good while recommending to embrace this season of renewal as an opportunity to cleanse and rejuvenate your body while enjoying the blooming beauty of spring.

Ayurveda in Winter – a guide to harmony of body and spirit

Winter often carries a negative reputation, earning titles such as the flu season, the cold season, and a time when contagious diseases tend to spread. Contrary to this perception, winter can actually be an opportune season for enhancing your immunity. It becomes a strengthening period if one is mindful of the specific contra-indications to avoid.

In Ayurveda, each season comes with distinct guidelines against particular practices. Winter, characterized by its cold and dry nature, necessitates specific measures to maintain overall body and mind health. Recommendations may vary depending on individual constitution, current health status, and ethnicity.

GENERAL AYURVEDIC CONTRA-INDICATIONS FOR THE WINTER SEASON:

Avoiding the consumption of cold and dry foods for example eating salad and raw foods. Consuming chilled foods like ice cream, chilled water, frozen foods.

Engaging in vigorous physical activities without adequate preparation or warmth.

Exposing the body to prolonged cold weather without sufficient protection.

Neglecting proper hydration.

Afternoon naps and disrupting regular sleep patterns.

Fasting

Not caring for the skin and allowing excessive dryness

Overlooking emotional well-being.

It’s crucial to note that these are general guidelines, and individual variations may apply. If we fast during this season or eat a lot of cold light foods our Vata dosha can go even higher due to the increased quality of lightness and coldness the body absorbs. Therefore, embracing these recommendations can improve our well-being and help us face the cold winter months stronger and healthier.

Ayurveda in practice in Winter – an individual approach to Ayurvedic recommendations

It’s important to realize that the above guidelines are general, and importantly, there may be individual differences in the need to apply them. Seeking advice from an Ayurvedic practitioner can offer personalized recommendations based on your unique constitution and health needs.
